there are actually several different types of off road motorcycles…
MX & SX, latest technology, incredible suspension, high reving, high HP, designed for the track with big jumps but relatively short duration of a race … 15-40 minute motos. examples: CRF, YZF, KTM SX/XC, RMZ, KXF…
then more into the Harescrambles & enduro type bikes, tend to have a wider ratio transmission, typically a bit more torquey with much smoother power band, made for more of trails to lighter MX tracks terrain for longer duration racing with pit stops for gas & water… 2-6 hour race duration. examples: KTM EXC/XC-W, CRFx, YZF with flywheel weight (CRF, RMZ & KXF also with FW weight), KDX
then just off road, typically a much more tame bike, without necessarily all the fancy high perf features. and also usually weigh more. examples: XR, TTR, KLX, CRF less than 230cc (all based on the older XR engine design)…

The Trek 820 will suit you and is within your budget. I rode one for many moons. Go to a bike shop tho; they may have a used bike with better components.

gollum123 writes “An accidental transportation upheaval began in China, where an estimated 120 million electric bicycles now hum along the roads, up from a few thousand in the 1990s. They are replacing traditional bikes and motorcycles at a rapid clip and, in many cases, allowing people to put off the switch to cars. The booming Chinese electric-bike industry is spurring worldwide interest and impressive sales in India, Europe, and the US. China is exporting many bikes, and Western manufacturers are also copying the Chinese trend to produce models of their own. From virtually nothing a decade ago, electric bikes have become an $11 billion global industry. In the Netherlands, a third of the money spent on bicycles last year went to electric-powered models.Industry experts predict similar growth elsewhere in Europe, especially in Germany, France, and Italy, as rising interest in cycling coincides with an aging population. India had virtually no sales until two years ago, but its nascent…

That annoys me too, so does motorists parking on pavements.
As a cyclist, I must be one in a million, as I get off my bike and walk with it through pedestrian areas to access parking places. I don't ride on pavements either.
Perhaps we need a 'lesser (or minor) crimes division' to deal specifically with such misdemeanours.

“The frame material is actually different. The Windsor is 6061 and the Motobecane is 7005. 6061 is a higher-quality aluminum that requires heat-treating for strength (that’s what the T6 means when you see it like 6061-T6), and overall will have bigger and thinner tubes than 7005. 7005 is usually for lower-end bikes. And it looks like the Motobecane has a slightly more aggressive geometry (but yeah, they’re pretty close). Both these are more nit-picky things, I guess, but yeah. I second the “go into debt over bikes” strategy.”

A growing number of resort and spa destinations are spreading their wings and reaching a wider customer base via social media. With the help of social networking platforms and niche bloggers, vacation spots are broadening their branding efforts from the sand to the slopes, and connecting with potential patrons they may not have reached through traditional advertising. Here’s a look at some of the social strategies these getaway companies are employing and what we can learn from their success. Online Dedication Ski resorts in particular are taking advantage of online opportunities to communicate with their communities and reach beyond their usual demographic. World-famous mountain resort company Vail Resorts is so dedicated to new outreach methods that it has shifted 80% of its marketing budget to digital production and social media strategy. As part of the company’s efforts to keep skiers up to date, Vail Resorts has launched three new websites: Lindsey Is Epic, which chronicle’s…

There is really no such thing as a "normal" bicycle. Bikes are designed for whatever type of riding the owner plans to do. Mountain bikes are designed for off road riding, road racing bikes are designed for fast rides on the road. Hybrid bikes are designed as a compromise somewhere between the two, they are faster than a mountain bike on the road, but fall short on rough terrain, and certainly won't be able to keep up with a lightweight road bike. You have to decide for yourself where and how you want to ride. Once you have done that, visit a few shops, explain what you want to do, and how much you expect to pay, weigh their answers, and decide which bike they have will fit your needs. If you live in a city where it rains a lot, you need a bike that has mudguards to protect you from road spray. Touring bikes, or a hybrid with mudguards might work well for you
Assuming you are talking about the maining of pedestrians, I suggest the cycles are segregated to the automobile portion of the roadway.
This will of course start people asking how long will cyclists have to submit to maiming by vehicular trafic before a change is made?
It would also be helpful to put large thin metal plates called license plates the size of an automobile plate on each cycle for identification purposes when the cyclist injures someone.
When I hear this song, especially the way the fast-paced way it was performed on the debut lp, I think I’m in a dingy NYC subway riding that train into Brooklyn with Leslie!

In exchange for an annual membership fee, Columbus International’s Columbus Club provides priority access to a “dream garage of exceptional motorbikes.” Members need not worry about depreciation, insurance, servicing, maintenance or storage—the company takes care of all that. Rather, they simply pick a membership level and enjoy riding a variety of high-end bikes. Three membership levels cost EUR 2,000, 3,000 and 5,000 per year, respectively.
Use the rear parts from the two 21speeds, slice them on opposite sides (just use one side rail from either side and when you join them, make sure they're on the outside). Then join them with parts of the cross members cut and fit. You may have to slice up the two single speed bikes if you need extra tubing (I'm pretty sure you will),
Use the front fork and wheel from the third 21speed; cut the frame just behind the seat post. I think the chain will hold up, although you're probably going to have to get rid of the gears, since 21 is far too many to comfortably handle.
Make a motor mount from some quarter-inch plate, measure the distance from the gear sprockets to the engine. Don't forget to tie the two rear frames together with a cross piece and an axle, since that will be the location where the engine to drive connection will be made (it has to be just slightly off center). Weld the sprocket to the axle you've made, mount the wheels (without the gears). Weld the front end to the rear at a convenient, ergonomic and esthetically pleasing location.
Install a clutch release lever on the left handlebar and a brake on the other handlebar; use front brakes only (I'd install double disks if I were doing it). Fire it up and drive carefully! Have fun! Good luck!
