EP Open water swimming youngsters, Frank Greeff (17 yrs) and Jessica Roux (17 yrs) dominated the Crocs 3km Ocean Swim, with Greeff winning in a time of 38min 40 sec and Roux placing 5th overall in 44:31. One of the outstanding performances of the day was 13 year old Chrislie Niehaus placing 7th overall to place 2nd in the ladies category. 14 year old Wayne Jones placed 2nd in the Men’s race just ahead of seasoned Ironman 47 year old Jack de Kort whilst Rebecca Newman placed 8th overall to finish 3rd in the ladies category. There is a major difference in how they fit. Mens jeans will not fit a womans body, they will be a bit baggy on the butt and not make it look as round or small, this is do to the pocket size and how far apart they are. If a man were to wear a womans jeans they would look silly and all scrunched up. The fact that the receipt said mens jeans, maybe it was a ticketing error, but if i were you i'd take them back. I work for seven in london, and just so you know the quality is not great, they rip behind the leg in a matter of months.

you are not going to find any hotel within walking distance of Kona Village with a sandy beach. The only hotel I am aware of that has a sandy beach is the Mauna Kea about 15-20 minutes away from the village. It's a man made beach and very big but I heard the hotel was still closed from the earthquake. I could be completely wrong on that but you should check it out first of course.
Sorry but there are very few sandy beaches, especially large ones, on the Kona coast. Most of the big island's coast is volcanic rock.

The best starter is a Yamaha 250 or 350 just depending on your age. As far as qualities, they are pretty much all the same except for the size. Just make sure you get the riding boots and the gear such as helment and pants and such. The Yamaha is a great starter bike.

Aloha and welcome to Hawaii. I would stay at a Hotel on or near the beach. The ones further away tend to be small, however, stay close to the beach will cost more. Central locations would be Sheraton Hotels : Moana, Royal Hawaiian, and Sheraton Waikiki. Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. Those I would recommend. Dukes in the Outrigger is a great place to hang out. As for attractions, go the Polynesian Cultural Center, Pearl Harbor (The Arizona Memorial), Hanauma Bay (closed every Tues), Society of Seven show (very talented). Those four I recommend to guests who stay at our property for vacations (the Outrigger Waikiki, hint, hint). Taxis and shuttles are easily available thru your bell staff. Renting a car is good too, more convenient.

You need to be able to switch between the various disciplines so you need to train that way.
You do not need to train like you would for just one sport. Know that the 3 do complement each other so you do not need spend lots of time training (unless you plan on earning a living from this).
Many books out on the market can help you get started.
Also check your equipment out. Make sur eyou have a proper bike that is fitted to you, you have a good swim-technique, and good running shoes.
Only other thing I can advise is get ready to lay out a lot of money for this sport. But once you do, other things are just add-on's so you do not need to spend as much.

kona is actually a city on "the big island" or "hawai'i" island . . .
either island would be fine, but i would probably recommend kaui – it's easier to drive around to different parts of the island so the kids won't be as likely to get carsick or tired of driving.
Also the big island has some live volcanoes, (which might be a reason to go there if you want to see them) but they let off VOG, kind of a volcanic smog, so the kids could breathe better on kaui also.

You need to proceed to the Social Security office and apply for a number. If you are not eligible to get a social security number, please advise that office to fax the verification letter to the nearest driver licensing office. You also need to bring your valid passport with an attached I-94 card. Fill an application for a type 3 (car) instruction permit. You will be required to take a general knowledge test. Upon passing the eye test and the written test, you will be given a type 3 permit. A road test is also required after passing the written test. Upon passing the road test, we will invalidate your foreign license and notify the proper agency. Fees: $2 test, $5 permit, $8 road test fee and $18 for the license.
